Résumé
Name:David Merfield
Location:Princeton, New Jersey, United States of America
Email:david@disali.com
Skills:Web & User Interface Design
Statement: Simplicity and ease-of-use are the cornerstones of every design project I embark upon, be it a corporate site, a blog or a photographer's portfolio. I believe a design can only be beautiful if it is usable. The websites I design are created with great attention to strong typography and organised grids. My influences are fairly diverse: I was educated across three continents and consequently have been exposed to styles of design from several cultures.
Software: Adobe Creative Suite, FTP Clients, Sony Vegas Pro 8.0, Text Editors, Google Analytics.
Languages: Fluent in cross-browser XHTML and CSS. Familiar with JS. Speaks French competently.
Strengths: Extremely focused and project orientated. Communication skills are a key strength.
Experience:I have worked on 4 major projects.
Dualgears
Summer
2008 A friend and I co-founded Dualgears back in the summer of 2008. We set out to offer design and marketing consultancy to various digitally based clients. I was allotted the task of advising clients on adjusting existing page designs. The project was an unmitigated disaster: we didn't get a single client and after 6 months we disbanded the company and went our separate ways. However, Dualgears taught me a lot about the fundamentals of running a start-up business on the web: communication, dedication and perseverance.
It may seem odd to include a failed project in my résumé. However, Dualgears was a crucial event in my development as both a designer and an entrepreneur.
Disali
2008 -
Present I started Disali, a creative agency, with Nick Cammarata, a developer I had worked with in the past. We both had complimentary skills and decided to create an agency that could provide both high-end design and developement. Disali is still in operation and looks to continue to do so for years to come.
Upload Robots
2009 -
Present Upload Robots is an online file management service that we started as an internal project, working from a platform my colleague started working on in 2003. The site blossomed into a widely used web application and a profitable business. It is currently used by hundreds of thousands of people each month. We are currently developing a desktop application using Adobe Air and look to reach out to a much larger audience.
Survivorship
A to Z
18th November
2008 I joined Survivorship A to Z in the summer and embarked upon the biggested re-design project of my career to date. The brief was to create a site that was usable and aesthetically pleasing. Survivorship A to Z proved invaluable in my knowledge of cross-browser XHTML and CSS for we had to create a site to be used on browsers from IE6 onwards. The project is still in development at this moment in time.
